Ohh I can’t believe it, I’ll put you in the White House

January 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Hello World,

Today is a turning point in history (But I’m guessing you already knew that).

As I’m sitting here watching the inaguration, I’m getting goosebumps. It just proves that things CAN change. For all the people out there who haven’t been told, “can’t”, well from this day forward “YOU CAN”. Barack represents a win not only for the democrats, or Africans, or African Americans, or men, or Illionois (Blago aside), but a win for the United States as a community of people who can get over the past and look towards to future. I say the United States because I believe that although the rest of the world is happy for us, many places still have a long way to go in terms of moving past racisim. Let this be a lesson, that if we can do it SO CAN YOU.

For me personally I am touched by this momentous moment but at the same time, I feel it isn’t really my victory. I didn’t grow up in a time when drinking fountains were separate, or schools were segregated but I am soooo happy that some of those who fought the battle then are alive now and I couldn’t be more proud of them. This was their struggle and they won the ultimate battle. Although there are still MANY miles to go, a huge stride has been made. So, although I am so overwhelmed with the history and awe of this moment I know that there are those among the crowd who really deserve to rejoice today because for me, a black president was never impossible. I never thought that it wouldn’t never happen. To those that never thought that they would see this day come, THAT’S who this day means the most to.

On a lighter note, did anybody take note of Obama when he was strolling down to be announced? He just looked like just a G cuz gangstas don’t smile. Cool, calm, and collected. (I have to say I cringed when I thought that he was the one who messed up the oath of office but turns out it was the chief Justice).

The speech was baller.

I’m looking forward to the next 4 years!

“The time has come”
